“While cameras do provide added security, this recent popular camera system software issue demonstrates that even when it comes to security devices, we must be diligent in securing our systems.”

In newly published research, security firm Tenable reveals how popular video surveillance camera software could be manipulated, allowing would-be attackers the ability to view, disable or otherwise control video footage. Fittingly dubbed “Peekaboo” by researchers, the weakness affects software created by NUUO, a surveillance system software maker with clients including hospitals, banks, and schools around the globe.  One of the most disturbing things about this vulnerability is that NUUO licenses its software out to at least 100 other brands and 2,500 camera models. Tenable estimates that the vulnerability could put hundreds of thousands of networked surveillance cameras at risk around the globe and many of the groups that operate those devices may be unaware that the risk is even relevant to the systems upon which they rely. – Glenn Baruck, eDot Solutions

Kacy Zurkus wrote the following article for Info Security Magazine.

Listen up Microsoft users, according to a recent article written by Kacy Zurkus for Infosecurity Group, Microsoft Office documents accounted for the delivery of nearly half of all malicious macros in August 2018, according to Cofense. A recent blog post found that the macro remains the email attachment of choice for delivering malicious payloads. Of all the mechanisms analyzed, 45% of attackers used these documents to deliver malicious macros, including Geodo, Chanitor, AZORult, and GandCrab.

According to researchers, the macro is a top choice because it either is enabled on a machine or only requires a single mouse click to be enabled. According to the experts at Cofense, this makes it simple to launch the first stage of an infection chain. Read the rest of this brief but informative article to find out more.

“Caring is always good but when it comes to marketing and brand success how much does it matter? The answer is not a simple one, as this excellent infographic demonstrates.”

– Glenn Baruck, The eDot Family of Companies

Laura Forer wrote the following article for MarketingProfs.

Is social impact significant for your brand? Some experts say business is business; nonetheless, most people appreciate brands that also do some good in the world. At times that good comes directly from a product, but even brands that create less altruistic products often still have a positive impact. That impact can be critical to consumers, especially young ones. More than half of young people have purchased a brand or product to show support for an issue the brand represented, and 40% have stopped buying because a brand did not align with their values. These stats are based on a report by DoSomething Strategic, the data-driving consultancy arm of DoSomething.org.

The marketing question becomes “Does it make sense for your brand to be part of social change?” Check out the infographic to learn more.
