In this uncertain world of cultural-fundraising, the “unglamorous” call center is more and more important to the lifeline of these organizations as they grapple with the challenge of how to reach prospective donors in the era of cell phones, caller ID and growing impatience with annoying interruptions. Yet the experts will tell you that calls are harder to ignore than mail or email, and some organizations say they believe many patrons appreciate getting reminders of when to renew their memberships, or when hot tickets are going on sale.
